Just For Fun

Thank you, Mom.

Dear Mom,

For the last 25 (almost 26!) years of my life, I’ve been lucky enough to have a mother as fantastic as you. You are somebody who is kind, patient, understanding, hilariously clever, and who brings sunshine into the lives of everybody she meets. And today, there are so many things I want to thank you for.

Thank you for always believing in and encouraging my talents. You never made me feel small or silly for what I love, and I wouldn’t have had the confidence to pursue writing the way I have without your vote of confidence.

Thank you for always keeping it real with me. You always told me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear. When I was younger I got angry at you for it, but now that I am older, I’ve learned to respect that about you.

Thank you for your superhuman amounts of patience. Sometimes I can’t believe how much you put up with from me over the years. I know I’m not always the easiest person to be around, so thanks for choosing to see the best in me – even when I make it hard.

Thank you for instilling in me your sense of humor and whimsy. You have such an infectious joy for life and a remarkable ability to laugh at yourself, plus you make some pretty awesome jokes. I obviously get my wit from somewhere! Life is so much more fun having you as a mother.

Thank you for raising me with the right values, and leading by example. You are a person of integrity who always does the right thing, somebody who is dedicated to her family, and somebody who works hard to make sure her family gets every opportunity in life.

I guess what I’m saying is, I have a lot to be thankful for. Happy Mother’s Day!
